Fashion is in my job description. And when it comes to dressing for the job I have, I’ve been taking a page from a certain inescapable TikTok micro-trend. Plus, the sure-to-sell-out sneaker I can’t stop thinking about. |

The office siren is a mythical creature who lives inside TikTok’s algorithmic walls. The trend (likely of the “micro” variety) is a kind of cross over of Lucy Liu’s memorable all-leather outfit from the Y2K classic Charlie’s Angels and Gisele’s 15-second cameo in The Devil Wears Prada. Think: ’90s square-frame glasses, pencil skirts and even an actual pencil stuck into your slicked-back bun.
It’s literal, severe and a little nostalgic. If taken too far, the office siren trend runs the risk of a deeply awkward conversation with HR. (While we definitely don’t want that, the entire concept of professionalism and its patriarchal, puritanical roots is an essay for another day.)
But when done right, the office siren trend comes across like a misplaced, but well-intentioned yearning for a working culture that no longer exists, one filled with fax machines and unhurried two-martini lunches. After all, in most of today’s workplaces, every day can be casual Friday and the martini has been swapped for a matcha slurped between the ping-ping of Slack notifications.
Silly as it is, I like dressing with a bit of unnecessary pomp and polish. Crisp white shirts lend me an aura of capability, heels weirdly do give me a sense of power (as much as the loud clack might annoy my office neighbours) and an analog watch on my wrist serves as a reminder to focus.
When I dress the part, the hard days are easier. Maybe because it helps me to believe my own hype, which in turn fuels my ambitions and makes those lofty quarterly goals feel achievable. Back on TikTok, one wise creator said that great style simply comes down to “having the audacity.” Love her or hate her, the office siren absolutely has the audacity, and she’ll have that report over to you by EOD. |

| Office -> Lunch Date -> Post-Work Drinks |
I shamelessly copied our very own Natalie Michie and trialled the necktie, paired here with a vintage leather dress from Danier and my favourite crisp button down from Canadian brand T.Line.

This shirt, with all its Gordon Gekko overtones, is one of the most complimented things in my wardrobe rotation. While mine (from H&M!) is sold out, Sézane has a compelling alternative, or why not just head straight to the men’s department.

Office -> Presentation -> Party |
The blazer-as-shirt is easily my favourite clothing genre—collar popped, of course. I wore this Maje number in my very first editor’s letter photo, so it will always feel special to me. If you see me wearing it, it’s a pretty safe assumption that I have something important going on that day. |

| | The Sort-of-Sneaker That Will Be Everywhere
|
If I was a betting woman, I’d venture a guess that the Adidas Taekwondo Mei will have a big summer. Two days ago, there were plenty of sizes in stock. Now? Hardly any pairs left. I’m afraid the shoe is well on its way to It status. So if you want to be on the cusp of the next big thing in sneakers, hunt down a pair before spring really arrives. |

While attempting to track down the sadly sold-out banker shirt pictured above, I came across several bangers in H&M’s shirt department. This poetic lace-up option might just have to be added to my official collection of WSWTs (white shirts with a twist). |

| The Bag That's on My Vision Board
|
It's been a while since a designer bag really caught my attention. But it makes perfect sense that when one does, it’s by JW Anderson. The outgoing Loewe designer’s “Pierce” bag was one of the first handbags I remember truly coveting over a decade ago. Alas, I did not pull the trigger back then (young! broke!). Will this one, called The Loafer, be a different story?

If my ode to the office siren hasn't convinced you, consider the rising Boom-Boom aesthetic, which is like an homage to ’80s wall street power players, one that's feeling a little too on-the-nose amid today's financial climate.
